Dental Cleanings & Exams for Children in San Antonio, TX
Children should have routine teeth cleanings and exams scheduled just as often as adults, or twice per year at least. Children's teeth cleanings are an important part of helping your child's teeth and gums remain clean and healthy. If you need to schedule your child's next dental appointment, please contact our front office team by giving us a call or sending us a message, and we will be happy to help you find a convenient time for you and your child to come visit us.
Schedule AppointmentThe First Pediatric Dental Appointment
So your child's very first visit to our office is coming up—we look forward to seeing them! Their first visit to our practice may take a little longer than their future appointments, as we like to take the time to really get to know our patients and their unique preferences and needs. If you think your child would benefit from taking a quick tour of our office before their first appointment to become familiar with our practice and our team, please let us know, and we'll be happy to arrange a preliminary visit.
When Should I Schedule My Child's First Dental Visit?
Ideally, a child's first dentist appointment should take place when they are one year old or when their first tooth grows in, whichever happens first. Once they have baby teeth, it will be important that they have their teeth cleaned and examined on a regular basis, just like adults. If your child is older and hasn't had their first pediatric dental appointment yet—that's okay! We'll be glad to see them at their very first visit.
Why Does My Child Need a Routine Cleaning and Exam?
Cleanings help clear away plaque that has built-up over time in areas that are hard to reach with a toothbrush. This helps prevent cavities and gum disease from developing. Regular exams allow our team to catch potential issues early before they progress and become harder and more costly to treat. Even if your child keeps their teeth squeaky clean at home, we still recommend scheduling biannual visits.
What If My Child is Scared of the Dentist?
It's completely normal for children to be afraid of going to the dentist, even if it's just for a teeth cleaning. We recommend that you speak with your child about the importance of dentistry in a calm and positive way, and reassure them that regular dental visits are an important part of staying healthy. Our team would also be happy to have a conversation with your child to help ease their fears of dentists and dentistry.
Are Children's Dental Exams Covered By Insurance?
Preventive services like routine cleanings and exams are almost always covered by insurance, and some plans will even cover fluoride treatments for children. If your child does not have dental insurance, we also accept cash, debit and credit, FSAs and HSAs, and Medicaid. For questions or concerns about financing, please get in touch with our front office team, or visit our financial page.
