Why would a baby tooth need a dental crown?
A dental crown may be needed for a variety of reasons. If a tooth has incurred a great amount of dental trauma or tooth decay, a dental crown can be used to protect it from receiving further damage. Dental crowns are also used to cover baby teeth that have recently received baby root canals to strengthen them and help prevent another infection from occurring. When the baby tooth is ready to come out, the dental crown will come off with it.
What kind of dental crowns are available for kids?
There are two types of dental crowns that are typically used for kids. If the tooth is a molar or can’t be easily seen when your child smiles, we may recommend that they get a stainless steel crown. Stainless steel dental crowns are very durable, and they are also more cost-effective than a tooth-colored crown. Tooth-colored crowns blend in better with surrounding teeth, so they are often used to protect and strengthen front teeth.
Are kids’ dental crowns affordable?
Dental crowns are one of the more affordable dental restorations that kids and adults can receive. However, we know that an unexpected restorative treatment can disrupt your annual dental budget, which is why we accept a variety of payment options, including cash, debit and credit, many popular insurance plans, and FSAs and HSAs. Our team also works with Medicaid plans, which typically offer some coverage for minor restorative procedures, like kids’ dental crowns.
