How to Find the Right Toothpaste

You and your family use your toothpaste at least twice every day. It’s important to make sure it’s the right product for you and your oral health. Do you grab the cheapest brand off the shelf? Or do you make sure to choose a formula that works for you? If you’re the former, then read on for some tips to make sure you’re choosing the perfect toothpaste for you and your family members.

Trust the Seal

The Seal of Acceptance from the American Dental Association (ADA) can be your guiding star when it comes to choosing dental products. They do a good job testing products for safety, efficacy, and more, so you can trust their recommendations. If you’re at the store and you need toothpaste, but you haven’t had a chance to research your needs or ask for recommendations, be sure that the product you choose has the ADA’s seal.

Pick a Flavor

If you’re choosing a toothpaste for the little ones, don’t be afraid to choose a funky flavor. Kids often don’t like mint. Choosing a flavor like strawberry or bubblegum will go a long way in encouraging them to get in the habit of brushing their teeth. Adults are often put off by strong mint flavors too. Don't feel bad about choosing a toothpaste that doesn't make you dread brushing your teeth either.

Consider the Tube

It sounds like a little thing, but consider how the toothpaste is dispensed. Some tubes are the standard shape, others stand up on the counter, some are a pump style. Select something that is easy for your kids to use. There's also nothing wrong with buying a toothpaste that's decorated with their favorite superhero or movie character if it makes them more inclined to brush without complaint.

Don’t Be Sensitive

If you or a family member has experienced discomfort when drinking or eating hot/cold foods or beverages, consider purchasing a toothpaste designed to mitigate sensitivity. In addition to cleaning your teeth as well as regular toothpaste does, it can help eliminate enough tooth sensitivity so that you can enjoy your favorite foods and drinks without pain.
